Khajuraho is one of the best examples of classical temple sculptures in India. These temples were built over a period spanning the 9th through the 12th centuries C.E. They are an enigma to many western tourists because of the fact that despite being places of worship, they are adorned with explicit erotic sculptures. The common belief is that the temple sculptures depict various facets of everyday life such as people working, listening to teachers, playing music, waging battles, and engaging in sexual activity. Just goes to show that the people of that time took a healthy view of things and gave sex its requisite place in life.
